Outdoor Handheld microSD or SD Card Not Detected, Recognized, or Incompatible in Garmin Express Software
If there is a problem with a microSD/SD card or the computer's USB configuration, Garmin Express™ software may fail to detect the card or display that it is incompatible.
NOTE: You may need to restart your computer to install any computer updates before performing the steps below.
Ensure Garmin Express program is up to date. For instructions, see - How to Install or Update the Garmin Express Application.
Make sure the microSD/SD card is within the size limits and has enough space. For more details, see - Outdoor and Marine Handheld Interface and SD Memory Card Requirements.
Make sure the microSD/SD card is fully inserted. Many outdoor handhelds have a card holder located inside the battery compartment (see video below). Some handhelds have a spring-loaded slot that will click softly when the card is in far enough. Garmin Express will not work with a separate card reader.
Make sure the USB cable is plugged directly into the handheld and the computer:
Do not use a USB hub or extension cable.
Use the USB ports on the back of desktop computers.
Unplug all USB devices (except for the mouse and keyboard), reboot the computer, and connect again.
Try a different USB port on the computer.
Format the memory card. For instructions, see - Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card for Outdoor Handhelds.
Try using a different microSD/SD card.
Run Garmin Express on a different computer
- If using a Mac computer, you can try a different Admin User before trying another computer. Contact Apple for instructions.
A functioning microSD/SD card should be detected if these troubleshooting steps are taken.
