Transferring Waypoints from BaseCamp to an Excel Spreadsheet

GPX files can come from a variety of sources and contain data such as routes, tracks, waypoints, and geocaches.

If the data you wish to export does not already exist in our BaseCamp™ software, these files can be imported then transferred.

Importing GPX Files

  1. Open BaseCamp program.

  2. Select the File drop-down menu from the top toolbar.

  3. Select Import...

  4. Browse to the GPX file location from the Import File window.

  5. Select Open for Windows, or Import for Mac.


Once the data has been imported, BaseCamp™ software will allow the transfer of waypoints, routes, and tracks to an Excel spreadsheet.

Transferring Your Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks to an Excel Spreadsheet

  1. Open BaseCamp program.

  2. Select the desired waypoints, routes, and/or tracks from My Collection/SD/Data Card.

    • Specific items can be highlighted in the lower-left panel by clicking a single item.

    • To select multiple items: CTRL + Click or Shift + Click (Windows), or Command Click or Shift + Click (Mac).

  3. Select File (Mac) or File > Export (Windows) the top toolbar.

  4. Select Export Selection (Windows) or Export Selected User Data (Mac)

  5. Under Save As Type, select 'Comma-delimited text (*csv)' for the file format.

  6. Select a destination (ex. My Documents or Desktop) to save the file.

  7. Click Save or Export.

  8. Launch Excel.

  9. Click File.

  10. Click Open.

  11. Open the saved .CSV file.

Once the selected file has been opened you will have an Excel spreadsheet with your exported information.
