Difference between Turning Off an Automotive Device and Activating Standby/Sleep/Suspend Mode
There are two ways to turn off the screen on your automotive device: put it into standby/sleep/suspend mode or turn the device off completely.
Standby/Sleep/Suspend mode
Standby/Sleep/Suspend mode allows you to quickly reacquire satellites and resume the use of the device. This mode is activated by pressing down the power button on your device.
In this mode:
The battery will draw slightly more power than being fully off, but less than if the device was turned on.
When the power button is pressed again, the device will immediately turn on and resume navigation.
The device will show a lock screen if it is not connected to the battery when powered back on.
See Lock Symbol when I Push the Power Button on my Automotive Device for more information.
When the battery drains low in standby/sleep/suspend mode, the device will power off. This mode helps to conserve battery. However, for extended periods of non-use, consider turning the device fully off to save battery.
Turning the Device Off
To turn off the device, press and hold the Power button for several seconds and then press Off. This will shut down the device and help preserve its battery charge. It will require several seconds to reboot a device after it has been fully turned off.
During troubleshooting, steps may advise rebooting the device. This means the device needs to be turned off using this method, then turned back on.
See the owners' manual for your model if you're not sure where to find the power button.
