Check for Updates
Verify that the Garmin Express program is up-to-date by reviewing Updating the Garmin Express Application Software.
Verify the Watch Has Entered Mass Storage Mode
In order for Garmin Express to find your watch it will need to enter into Mass Storage Mode. Typically, when your watch has successfully entered into Mass Storage Mode, the screen will display a battery charging icon and the
eject symbol. For example:
Clean the Charging Contact Points
Ensure you are using a Garmin branded cable; some third-party brands of cables may charge the device, but will not necessarily be capable of transferring data so that the device can be properly recognized by the computer.
Rule out any damage to the cable and ensure the contact points on the Garmin device are clean and clear of debris or corrosion.
For more help, see: Cleaning the Battery Contacts on a Rechargeable Garmin Watch.
Try plugging the cable into a different USB port on the computer.
Power Cycle Your Computer and Watch
Computer: Shut the computer down and leave off for 60 seconds. Power back on.
Watch: If you are not familiar with restarting or rebooting your Garmin device refer to your owner's manual. For Garmin rechargeable watches that do not have buttons, plugging the watch into and removing from a USB using the USB charging cable will effectively reboot the watch.
Other Troubleshooting Suggestions:
Close other applications that are actively running on the computer, such as: Garmin BaseCamp™ or Tacx Training App.
