Purpose of Wi-Fi on Outdoor Handhelds
Connected features are available for compatible outdoor handhelds when you connect the device to a wireless network or a compatible smartphone using Bluetooth technology. Some features, like BirdsEye Direct, specifically require a Wi-Fi connection, while other features may also work when the handheld is paired with the Garmin Connect™ app on your smartphone.
Compatible Devices
The following devices have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
NOTE: Available features will vary by device. Refer to "Connected Features" in your owner's manual to confirm which of these features your device has.
Connected Features That Can Be Used With Wi-Fi
EPO Downloads
Allows you to download an extended prediction orbit file to quickly locate GPS satellites and reduce the time it takes to get an initial GPS fix using the Garmin Connect app or when connected to a Wi‑Fi network.
BirdsEye Direct (i.e. Satellite Imagery)
Allows you to download BirdsEye Satellite Imagery directly to your device when connected to a Wi‑Fi network. Some devices may also require a Bluetooth connection with the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Explore™ app in order to download satellite imagery.
Live Geocache Data
Provides paid or subscription-free services to view live geocache data from www.geocaching.com using the Garmin Connect app or when connected to a Wi‑Fi network.
Sync Activities with Garmin Connect
Activities can be synced to your Garmin Connect account with the Garmin Connect app or when connected to a Wi‑Fi network.
NOTE: The Montana® 700 series can sync activities with the Garmin Connect app, but will not sync activities over Wi-Fi.
Software Updates
Allows you to receive updates for your device software using the Garmin Connect app or when connected to a Wi‑Fi network.
Weather
Allows you to view current weather conditions and weather forecasts using the Garmin Connect app or when connected to a Wi‑Fi network.
