Signs of a Garmin Chartplotter Overheating
Every Garmin chartplotter is rated to work in a specific temperature range. The installation manual will list this information under the specifications of the device.
Mount the device in a location to avoid overheating. If mounting in an area where temperatures exceed operating ranges, additional ventilation may be required, such as flush-mounted. Consider adding a fan to circulate air and help cool the space. Another source of excess heat is the reflection from the window.
Some signs that the machine may be overheating are:
The chartplotter is hot to the touch
The device locks up and must have power removed to reset
The screen turns white or discolors
The device responds slowly when pressing buttons
