Compass Heading Not Updating Correctly
If the compass heading in your Garmin outdoor handheld or watch is not updating correctly, refer to the information below for solutions.
First, check what type of compass your device has: Compass Options for Garmin Outdoor Handhelds and Watches
Devices With Electronic Compass
The devices that come with an electronic compass behave like a traditional compass.
However, these devices occasionally need to be calibrated to perform at its best. For steps on calibrating an electronic compass, see Related.
Devices Without Electronic Compass
Devices that do not come with an electronic compass may have a GPS-based compass that only updates the heading by utilizing GPS and direction of travel.
GPS-based compasses require walking at an average pace (approximately 2-3 miles per hour) to update the heading on the device. Poor GPS accuracy may require faster movement.
