Installing Software Updates to the Alpha 200 and Alpha 300 Series Handheld

Software for your Garmin Alpha® 200 & Alpha® 300 dog tracking handhelds should be kept up to date to take advantage of improvements and bug fixes. Updates are free and easy to install. There are three ways you can keep the software update. Two are automatic and the third is manual and can be done at any time.

The two methods that occur automatically are through Wi-Fi and the Garmin Explore™ App.

Using Wi-Fi

  • Device must be on and have a good signal with the Wi-Fi
    • Device does not support a 5 GHz connection; it needs to be connected at 2.4 GHz
    • Device does not support a Wi-Fi network that requires a sign-in, like those offered in many hotels or other public places
  • If an update is available, it may take a while to recognize the update is available and download it
    • When the software update begins downloading, under your Wi-Fi settings you will see a line stating Downloading and a percentage complete, for example:
      Software Update Downloading
    • When the software update download is complete, under your Wi-Fi settings you will see a line stating Requires Restart, for example:
      Software Update Restart Required
    • If you turn off your handheld and turn it back on you should be prompted to begin the software installation
  • If you need help setting up the Wi-Fi on your handheld follow the link below
