Getting Started With Outdoor Maps Plus on a Compatible Tread Device

With an Outdoor Maps+ annual subscription, you gain access to a wide variety of premium mapping content. This content is regularly updated. A subscription can be activated allowing mapping content to be downloaded directly to a compatible device via Wi-Fi. The topics below explain how to activate, download, and use the different types of mapping content that are available with Outdoor Maps+.

NOTE: The software on the device must be up to date to activate and download Outdoor Maps+ Content.

Outdoor Maps+ is compatible with the following devices:

  • Tread® 2 GPS navigator

  • Tread® - Overland Edition GPS navigator

  • Tread® - SxS Edition GPS navigator

  • Tread® XL - Baja Chase Edition GPS navigator

  • Tread® XL - Baja Race Edition GPS navigator

  • Tread® XL - Overland Edition GPS navigator

  • Arctic Cat G8 Display

  • Kawasaki RIDGE 8" Tread Display

Activating Outdoor Maps+

To begin downloading Outdoor Maps+ content, a subscription must be purchased and activated.

NOTE: You must be paired to the Tread® app to activate your Outdoor Maps+ subscription. 

  1. Go to Map Manager

  2. Select Outdoor Maps+

  3. Select Add Premium Maps with Outdoor Maps+

  4. Use the QR code present to connect a compatible Smartphone to the device with the Tread app

  5. In the Tread app, select the Map Layers Map Layers Tread 2 icon

  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the map layers and select the Subscribe button 

  7. Select and purchase an Outdoor Maps+ plan 

Once the activation completes, you can proceed with downloading Outdoor Maps+ content to the device. (Activation will complete on its own shortly after purchase).

Setting Up Wi-Fi

To download Outdoor Maps+ content, the device must be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network. 

  1. Select the Settings Gear on the main menu of the device

    • Select Apps and then Tools first on some devices

  2. Select Wi-Fi

    • Select Wireless Networks first on some devices

  3. Select Search for Networks

    • Skip this step on some devices

  4. Select the desired network to connect to

  5. If applicable, enter the password to the Wi-Fi network and select Done or Connect

The device is now connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Downloading Outdoor Maps+ Content

After activating an Outdoor Maps+ annual subscription, the following steps can be used to download content via Wi-Fi. These steps can be repeated to download multiple areas of the map.

NOTE: The software on the Tread device must be up to date to download Outdoor Maps+ Content.


To Download Outdoor Maps+ Content on a Tread® - Overland Edition, Tread® - SxS Edition, Tread® XL - Overland Edition, Arctic Cat G8 Display, and Kawasaki RIDGE 8" Tread Display:

  1. Select Settings

  2. Select Map Display

  3. Scroll down and select Map Manager

  4. Select Outdoor Maps+

  5. Select Download Maps

  6. Pan around the map to highlight the desired download area within the black boarder on the map screen

    • Zoom in and out of the map using the Zoom in Button and Zoom out Button  symbols to control the size of the area being downloaded; the area chosen and zoom level will determine the size of the download and map layers available

  7. Available storage space will be listed at the top of the page. Select theMap Layers Plus Icon icon to choose map content to download

  8. Select the desired map layers to download

    • Select the 3 dots icon icon above a map layer to get a description of the layer

  9. After choosing the desired map layer(s), select the back arrow in the lower left corner of the screen

  10. When the desired download area is within frame and all desired map layers have been chosen, select the download Download icon OM Tread 2 icon 

    • Prior to downloading, select the Memory Options Icon icon to choose if the download is saved to internal storage or an external memory card

  11. The download will begin. Wait for the download to complete or begin downloading more content if desired

    • While the download is in progress, make sure to keep the device powered on and in range of the connected Wi-Fi network. Depending on the speed of the Wi-Fi network, each download may take several minutes to complete.


To Download Outdoor Maps+ Content on a Tread® XL - Baja Chase Edition | Tread® XL - Baja Race Edition GPS Navigator:

  1. Select Apps

  2. Select Tools

  3. Select Settings

  4. Select Map Display

  5. Scroll down and select Map Manager

  6. Select Outdoor Maps+

  7. Select Download Maps

  8. Pan around the map to highlight the desired download area within the black boarder on the map screen

    • Zoom in and out of the map using the Zoom in Button and Zoom out Button  symbols to control the size of the area being downloaded; the area chosen and zoom level will determine the size of the download and map layers available

Enabling or Disabling Outdoor Maps+ Content

  1. Go to View Map, Map or Chase Map

  2. Select the Map Layers Map Layers Tread 2 icon

  3. Select the Outdoor Maps+ layers you wish to enable or disable

    • Outdoor Maps+ layers will have an Outdoor maps plus icon icon on them

NOTE: The Slope Angle and Slope Aspect layers may require an HDEM map update.

Editing Downloaded Outdoor Maps+ Content

Installed Outdoor Maps+ content can be edited to remove or add additional map layers when using the device for different activities. You can rename downloaded Outdoor Maps+ content, delete the downloaded content, or download/delete layers from the downloaded content area(s).

  1. Go to Map Manager

  2. Select Outdoor Maps+

  3. Select the desired Outdoor Maps+ download to edit

  4. Select Name to rename the download if desired

  5. Select Delete to delete the download if desired

  6. Select Map Layers to delete or add additional layers to the download area if desired

    • 'Download area' is the region that was highlighted for the original Outdoor Maps+ download that was created

Managing Your Subscription

When purchasing an Outdoor Maps+ annual subscription, there is an option to enable automatic annual renewal. If you need to update your payment information or cancel automatic renewal, this can be done by visiting garmin.com/subscriptions and signing into your Garmin account.
