Why Am I Seeing a Garmin Golf Service Notification on My Android Phone?

Android Phones running 8.0 (Oreo) or higher will notify you about apps running in the background as shown below:

Notification Showing Garmin Golf is Running

Why Does Garmin Golf™ App Need to Run in the Background?

Allowing the app to run in the background will keep your Garmin device connected with key features such as smart notifications and weather information. It also enables your phone to automatically sync data from your device to your Garmin account.

For devices that pair with the Garmin Connect™ App, the Garmin Connect App will sync scorecards and other golf data to the Garmin Golf App in the background of your phone.

Can I Turn Off This Notification?

The notification can be turned off by following these steps:

  1. From your phone, touch and hold on the Garmin Golf icon.

  2. Select App Info.

  3. Select Notifications.

  4. Toggle off Golf App Running.

Alternatively, you can toggle off all notifications for Garmin Golf. This will not change the behavior of smart notifications your Garmin device receives.

Now I Am Seeing a Battery Usage Message

If you see a notification indicating that the Garmin Golf is using battery resources, it is important to know that any Android app that runs in the background will affect your phone's battery life.

To Hide This Notification:

  1. From the phone, swipe down from the top to display your notifications.

  2. Touch and hold the Battery Notification, then select the option to turn it off.

  3. Select Done.

Why Does the Service Notification Pop Back Up?

If you reboot your phone, the notification may display again. Opening the Garmin Golf on the phone will result in the notification disappearing.
