Elevation and Gradient Data When Calculating Speed or Distance on a Forerunner
Most Forerunner® watches do not take into account gradient or elevation data to calculate speed and distance. This is due to the data either being unreliable and/or insignificant to make much of an impact on speed and distance.
The exceptions are advanced Forerunner watches such as the Forerunner 255 Series, 570, 745, 935, 945 series, 955 series, 965, and 970 with each having the ability to record 3D Distance and 3D Speed.
For all other watches, we recommend the use of a Garmin Running Dynamics Pod or Speed Sensor 2 if compatible which will allow you to receive the most accurate ground speed and distance when recording an activity.
