Adding Special SOS Instructions

There may be a time when it is needed to activate the SOS on an inReach® satellite communicator. When an SOS is triggered, the Garmin Response™ Center does the following:

  • Notifies the proper rescue agency based on the location and situation described by the impacted user and any special instructions.

  • Provides the impacted user and account contacts with rescue updates and status.

  • Maintains contact with the responding agency until confirmation that the rescue is completed.

  • Contacts the emergency contacts, or follows guidance in special instructions.

Special instructions can be added to the Emergency Notes in the Garmin Explore™ website account under the Account page. These are used to inform the Garmin Response Center of precise details, instructions and/or protocols in case of an emergency. These may include:

  • Itinerary and/or activity context for the inReach device user in the field.

  • Insurance policy and/or preferred rescue resource contact information.

  • Important medical information.

If you have questions about using an SOS in specific scenarios, or have follow-up questions after having triggered an SOS for any reason, contact the Garmin Response℠ Center.
