Garmin® Multiple Depth Range Shading Isn't Working Properly
There are numerous reasons why Multiple Depth Range Shading may not be appearing or working on a chartplotter.
GPSMAP® chartplotters can have built-in combination BlueChart® g3 and LakeVu™ g3 marine charts
Additional Marine Charts are available
ECHOMAP™ chartplotters can have either a built-in Lake Vu or a built-in BlueChart g3 marine chart
Additional Marine Charts are available
Chartplotter Built-in Marine Chart Considerations:
LakeVu g3:
The chartplotters LakeVu portion of the built-in fishing chart will allow the use of Depth Range Shading
The chartplotters built-in LakeVu portion of the marine fishing chart must be 2017 or newer
Depth Range Shading must be turned on (see below "How to Enable Depth Range Shading")
In the navigation chart, multiple depth range shading will only affect user-generated Quickdraw chart content
The availability of Depth Range Shading is dependent on if that particular lake has been charted to include the Depth Range Shading feature
BlueChart g3:
- The chartplotters built-in BlueChart g3 marine fishing chart does not support Multiple Depth Range Shading unless a full version of a BlueChart g3 mapping or a BlueChart g3 Vision card is installed in the chartplotter
NOTES:
• In the chartplotter, the Depth Range Shading option appears to be functional and can be selected with a built-in BlueChart g3 chart, however it is not an active option using only the built-in BlueChart g3 marine chart.
• Users must use a full version of a BlueChart g3 marine chart or a BlueChart g3 Vision marine chart that is either installed on a micro/SD card or transferred from the users ActiveCaptain account.
• A built-in chart is not considered to be the full version. Full versions are purchased on preprogrammed micro/SD cards or downloaded via Garmin Express or Active Captain.
• 1' contours are not included in the US + Great Lakes Detail Map or Coastal side of BlueChart g3 + LakeVu g3 built in charts.
• Auto Guidance is not included in units preloaded with US + Great Lakes Detail charts.
Some examples of a full version marine chart are:
Southern Gulf of Mexico Coastal Chart
Caribbean, Southwest Coast Chart
US All and Western Canada Coastal Charts
BlueChart g3 Vision Chart
LakeVu g3
LakeVu Ultra West or East
NOTE: Installing a full version of a BlueChart g3 or BlueChart g3 Vision chart will enable the Depth Range Shading feature to work in the coverage area for that specific marine fishing chart.
In the Navigation chart, multiple depth range shading will only affect user-generated Quickdraw chart content
