Hardwiring a Garmin Tread Series Device Directly to a 12-Volt Power Source

It is not recommended to hardwire Garmin automotive products to a 12-volt power source unless using a specifically-designed, Garmin-made accessory with a compatible device. Hardwiring a device in any other way may cause damage. Damage incurred in this way is not covered under warranty.

  • The Tread® GPS navigator includes a High-Current Power Cable to hardwire the device to a vehicle like an ATV or Side-by-Side.

    • This cable can also be used with the Group Ride Radio.

  • The Tread® 2 GPS navigator includes a Handlebar Controller and Group Ride Radio Y-Adapter Kit to hardwire the device to a vehicle like a snowmobile, ATV or Side-by-Side.

    • This cable can also be used with the Group Ride Radio and Handlebar Controller.

  • The Tread® - Base Edition GPS navigator includes a Power Cable to hardwire the device to a vehicle like an ATV or Side-by-Side.

  • The Tread® - SxS Edition GPS navigator includes a High-Current Power Cable to hardwire the device to a vehicle like an ATV or Side-by-Side.

    • This cable can also be used with the Group Ride Radio.

  • The Tread® XL - Baja Race Edition GPS navigator includes a Tread XL Dock Power Cable to hardwire the device to a vehicle.

    • This cable is also compatible with the Tread XL - Baja Chase Edition GPS navigator, but is not included with that model. The cable can also be used with the Tread XL Dock, not included.

  • Tread® - Overland Edition and Tread® XL - Overland Edition GPS navigators can be used with a High-Current Power Cable to hardwire the device to a vehicle.

    • This cable is not included with the Tread - Overland Edition and Tread XL - Overland Edition GPS navigators.  The cable can be used with the included mount and the Group Ride Radio, not included.

Concerns of using other power cables (outside of getting enough power) are that traffic may not work, and the cable may not be capable of providing a clean power signal to the device. This could affect the overall performance for all features to work.

When hard-wiring a device to a vehicle's battery, the device may constantly be drawing and draining power from the vehicle.

If a device is not covered by the options above, it should never be hardwired under any circumstances.
