Viewing Hunting Management Units on the Oregon 600 and 700 Series
Hunting Management Units (HMU) are not turned on by default when the HuntView Plus map is installed on a Garmin Oregon® 600 or 700 series outdoor handheld. Instructions for enabling the units are below, along with some helpful information and tips for viewing the Hunting Management Units on the Map page of the Garmin.
Enabling Hunting Management Units
- Open the Map page.
- Press

- Select Setup Map.
- Select HMU Setup.
- Select the State.
- Select the Unit(s) to view.
- Select
until you reach the map.
The Hunting Management Unit(s) chosen should be visible on the Map page. You may have to zoom in or out depending on your view level.
HuntView Plus maps have a lot of information. Quite often with Hunting Management Units enabled, the Map page on the Garmin may become very difficult to read.
Tips for Viewing Hunting Management Units
- Only enable the Hunting Management Unit currently needed.
- Disable other map information from HuntView Plus mapping.
- Open the Map Page.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- Press
.
- Select Setup Map.
- Select Configure Maps.
- Select the Maps not needed to view.
- Tip: It is recommended to have at least the Basemap enabled with the HMU mapping.
Additional Information on Hunting Management Units
- Hunting Management Units (HMU) have multiple names depending on the state chosen.
- Alternative names are: Game Management Units (GMU), Wildlife Management Units (WMU) or Hunting Zones.
- All Hunting Management Units are show with green lines. If multiple units are selected at the same time, it may be difficult to view the data.
- Only Units available for the state will be shown.
- Example: There will not be an option for alligators in Montana.
- Some states do not group all species into specific the units
- Example: Oregon has 3 units so Duck, Goose and all other species are grouped together.
- The unit number will display at the top of the Map page if the area is highlighted.
