How Mobile Numbers Are Used in the Garmin Messenger App
After we verify that a mobile number is yours, it is used to send and receive messages in the Garmin Messenger™ app.
Garmin Messenger does not replace your SMS text messaging app, but it will be the primary way to receive and respond to messages from inReach® users and other Garmin Messenger users. If an inReach user or Garmin Messenger user tries to send you a message and it cannot be delivered (e.g. if you have uninstalled Garmin Messenger), you will receive a message in your SMS app to notify you that someone is trying to contact you via Garmin Messenger.
IMPORTANT
When your phone number is the only contact for a message it will be delivered to your default SMS text messaging app.
When your phone number is included with one or more contacts the message will only appear in the Garmin Messenger app as a group message.
- If you decide to stop using Garmin Messenger and wish to go back to receiving inReach messages in your phone's default text messaging app, you will need to remove your phone number in the Garmin Messenger app by deleting your Garmin Messenger account. For steps, see - inReach Messages Not Received After Uninstalling Garmin Messenger.
Help People Find and Connect With You
Your mobile number is also used to help people find and connect with you in the Garmin Messenger app.
People who have your mobile number will see that you are on Garmin Messenger. Your phone number will not be displayed to other users unless you are included in a group message by a mutual acquaintance.
