Reverse Course Option Missing on an Outdoor Handheld

If a course has been created on an outdoor handheld while using Roads & Trails as the routing option, there will be no option to reverse the course on the device. This is by design so-as to prevent users from potentially being routed the wrong way down one-way roads. Keep in mind that if you wish to be able to reverse a course later, use Direct Path as the routing option when creating the course.

The following handheld devices support courses as well as road maps (e.g. TopoActive maps):

  • GPSMAP® 66i | GPSMAP® 66s | GPSMAP® 66sr | GPSMAP® 66st

  • GPSMAP® 67 | GPSMAP® 67i

  • GPSMAP® 86i | GPSMAP® 86s | GPSMAP® 86sc | GPSMAP® 86sci

  • Montana® 700 | Montana® 700i | Montana® 750i

Unless it is an extremely long course, you should be able to zoom in close enough on the map of the device to see that the course navigation line is following along roads or trails. Other than the lack of a Reverse Course option, this would be the only way to confirm that road maps were used to create the course.

Unlike courses, tracks can always be reversed since they never rely on routable road data. If needed, the steps below can be used to copy a course as a track, which can then be navigated in reverse.
