Can I Use a Heart Rate Monitor Strap While Swimming?
If you plan to wear a heart rate monitor while swimming, Garmin recommends one of the following heart rate straps:
These straps are designed to store heart rate data while swimming, then send the heart rate to compatible watches after exiting the water. Refer to your owner's manual for compatibility with this feature.
The following watches use an optical heart rate sensor on the watch to record heart rate while swimming, but a chest strap is recommended for the most accurate data:
- Descent Mk2 series
- Enduro series
- epix (Gen 2) series
- fenix 6 series
- fenix 7 series
- Forerunner 55*
- Forerunner 245 series*
- Forerunner 745
- Forerunner 945/945 LTE
- Garmin Swim 2

- Legacy Saga series (Darth Vader, Rey)*
- MARQ collection
- quatix 6
