Sharing User Data Between Compatible Garmin ECHOMAP and STRIKER Series Devices
The ECHOMAP series devices and STRIKER series devices share user data by connecting the bare wires bundled inside their power cable. This process is referred to as NMEA 0183 data transfer.
NOTE: The STRIKER series does not have a micro/SD card slot to save or transfer user data (Waypoints, Routes, or Tracks).
Devices that are compatible and share User Data via the NMEA 0183 wiring:
All STRIKER , STRIKER Plus and STRIKER Vivid series
echoMAP (non-CHIRP) series
echoMAP CHIRP series
ECHOMAP Plus 4x / 6x series
ECHOMAP UHD 6x series
ECHOMAP devices that cannot utilize NMEA 0183 Data Transfer:
echoMAP 50s / dv and echoMAP 70s / dv cannot transfer user data via NMEA 0183
ECHOMAP Plus and UHD 7x cv / sv and 9x sv cannot transfer user data via NMEA 0183
ECHOMAP Ultra Series cannot transfer user data via NMEA 0183
NOTES:
• ECHOMAP 7x cv / sv, 9x sv and ULTRA series devices can transfer user data via a Garmin Marine Network cable.
• If the device has a micro/SD card slot, it can transfer user data utilizing the micro/SD card between the devices.
• If the device has ActiveCaptain capabilities, the user data can be synced to a smart device through ActiveCaptain and then transferred to the other compatible device with ActiveCaptain capabilities.
Wire Considerations:
There are four wires contained within the power cable bundle. The Blue and Brown wires transmit user data or NMEA 0183 sentences.
Blue is Transmit Positive (Tx+). Connect this to the Brown wire of the second device
Brown is Receive Positive (Rx+). Connect this to the Blue wire of the second device
Black is Ground. Connect both Black wires to the same common ground
Red is Power. Connect this to a positive power source
With electrical connections completed, enable User Data Sharing, and set the communication serial port to Garmin High Speed on both devices¹.
¹Only ECHOMAP series devices have multiple baud rate settings for their serial communication port. STRIKER series devices only transmit and receive Garmin High Speed and do not require the second set of steps.
To enable User Data Sharing: Select User Data > Manage Data > User Data Sharing, set to ON.
To change the serial communication port (ECHOMAP series): Select Settings > Communications > Serial Port > Garmin High Speed.
After set-up, each device's user data, both existing and newly created, is copied to the other.
IMPORTANT: With both devices powered on, the option to Clear User Data clears user data on both units.
Use an extension cable if the two devices are not mounted close enough to connect their wires. The instructions below detail the connections of the extension cable between the two devices.
Connecting the first device to the extension cable:
Connect the Blue wire (1) of the first device to the Green wire (4) of the extension cable
Connect the Brown wire (2) of the first device to the White wire (5) of the extension cable
Connect the Black wire (3) of the first device to the Black wire (3) of the extension cable
Connecting the extension cable to the second device:
Connect the Green wire (4) of the extension cable to the Brown wire (2) of the second device
Connect the White wire (5) of the extension cable to the Blue wire (1) of the second device
Connect the Black wire (3) of the extension cable to the Black wire (3) of the second device
