Using the Route Planner in the Tread App

The Tread® app has the ability to create a multiple-point trip and mark waypoints. Routes and waypoints can be synced with a compatible device via the Tread app.

NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear.


To Create a Route in Route Planner Using an Address:

1. Open the Garmin Tread app

2. Select the Route Icon

  • NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear.

   

3. Select the Magnifying Glass icon 

4. Enter the address for the starting point 

5. Select the address 

6. Select Add to Route 

7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 to add more points onto the route until the route is completed

8. Touch the X icon and select Save and Exit 


To Create a Route in Route Planner Without an Address

1. Open the Tread app

2. Select the Route Icon

  • NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear.

3. Pan around the map and select the location for your starting point. Select Start Here to confirm this location.

4. Touch the map again for the next point. Select Add a Stop to confirm this location.

  • Repeat this process until you finish building the route. 

5. Touch the X icon and select Save and Exit


Adding Shaping Points to an Existing Route

1. Select a route segment, which is a section of the route between two waypoints

2. Touch Select This Segment

3. Select a point on the map to shape the route

4. Select Insert Shaping Point


To Create a Waypoint

1. Touch the Waypoint icon

 

2. Touch Save

  • You can drag the waypoint in any direction to a new position if needed before selecting save. 

Adding Map Layers

When selecting Map layers in the Tread app, there will be a Map Type, and Map Details. A Map Type is the main map being displayed. Map Details are additional layers of data on top of the selected Map Type, allowing for more customization of map visuals.

The following Map Types are available in the Tread app:
NOTE: The available layers will vary by location.
  • Driving: City Navigator and TopoActive roads and POIs
  • IGN France: National raster maps for France produced by the Institut Géographique National (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)
  • NRC CanTopo: National raster maps produced by Natural Resources Canada (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)
  • Satellite: Provides an overhead satellite map view
  • TOPO PRO: Detailed topographical maps for selected regions of Europe (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)
  • TOPO Swiss: Raster maps for Switzerland produced b swisstopo (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)
  • USGS quadrangle maps: 1:24K Quadrangle maps (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)
  • Base Map: Simplified map with basic lines

The following Map Details are available in the Tread app:

  • Adventure Roads & Trails: Off highway roads and trails.

  • Atlas Points: Gazetteer points from Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer topographical map series (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Avalanche: Streaming map of an avalanche risk assessment (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Boat ramps: Database of boat ramps, kayak, and canoe launch sites (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Burn zones: Map of historical burn areas (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Campgrounds: Displays information from the Ultimate Campgrounds database. (North America only)

  • Collections: Allows you to show or hide collections from your Garmin account.

  • Contour Lines: Displays differences in elevation.

  • Heritage Points: Database of worldwide heritage points including descriptions (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required).

  • HMU: Game or wildlife unit boundaries (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Hydro: Water data including lakes, streams, rivers, and other hydrographic features (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • LTE Coverage: Map indicating areas reported to have LTE coverage (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Night Lights: Map depicting artificial light pollution affecting the night sky (Outdoor maps+ subscription required)

  • Off Road Parks: Maps of popular off-road areas and private off-road parks with difficulty ratings

  • Outdoor POI: Points of interest for natural features and outdoor destinations (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Parcel: Provides information that helps determine what areas are owned by a particular land owner.

  • PLSS: Public Land Survey System boundaries (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Public Lands: Shows the differences in National Forest, reservations, BLM (Bureau of Land Management), etc.

  • Relief Shading: Map with elevation shading

  • Slope Angle: Map depicting the gradient of the terrain (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Slope Aspect: Map depicting the relative slope orientation (Outdoor Maps+ subscription required)

  • Snowmobile Trails: Displays snowmobile trails.

  • Tracks4Africa Points; GPS points in Africa

  • USFS Points: Displays information from the US Forest Service Adventure Points database. (North America only)


To Change the Map Layers 

1. Touch the Map Layers icon

2. Select the Map Layers you wish to add

 Choose map layers

3. If desired, toggle between online and offline maps by selecting the offline icon
