Items to Check
If issues occur when trying to pair for the first time, getting a new or replacement phone, or after resetting your device, refer to the following suggestions.
Access the app store on the phone or tablet to install any available updates for the Garmin Explore app.
Phone or Tablet Updates
Most mobile devices install updates automatically, but it is best to confirm you have the latest operating system and install any missing updates. Consult your phone manufacturer for assistance, if needed.
Reboot the Montana and Phone or Tablet
Restarting the devices you are trying to pair will often resolve common Bluetooth connectivity issues.
Try powering off both the Montana and your phone or tablet, then powering them both back on.
Confirm Bluetooth® Pairing is Enabled
Check in the phone or tablet settings to ensure Bluetooth is turned on and not in Airplane mode. Contact the phone or tablet manufacturer for assistance, if needed.
To enable Bluetooth pairing on the Montana:
Touch to access the main menu.
Select Setup.
Select Pair Phone.
NOTE: If you do not see Pair Phone, you will need to select Phone, then Forget Phone before the Montana can be paired.
Select Pair.
Retry the Pairing if it Fails or Stalls
If you encounter a Pairing Failed error with the option to Retry, select Retry to try again.
If it fails again after selecting Retry, perform the following:
Forget/remove/unpair the Montana from the Bluetooth menu in the phone or tablet's settings.
Forget the smartphone in the Montana device settings:
Touch to access the main menu.

Allow Enough Time for the Phone or Tablet to Find the Montana Handheld
During the pairing process it can take 20+ seconds for the phone or tablet to find the Montana handheld.
If your phone or tablet does not find the device right away, allow more time. Once the device has been found, select Connect it.
A six digit pin will appear on the device after you select Connect it.
Connect the Phone or Tablet to Mobile Data and Try Again
