Not receiving MSN Direct Service

In October 2009 Microsoft announced that their MSN Direct Service would be discontinued on January 1st, 2012. Discontinuation of the MSN Direct service means your supported device no longer receives the MSN Direct content such as Weather, Traffic, News, etc. Other device features not dependent on MSN Direct content, such as navigation, will not be affected by the discontinuation of MSN Direct service.

The power cable once used to receive the MSN Direct content will continue to provide power to your Garmin device. If you would like to add the ability to receive traffic alerts from our traffic provider NAVTEQ, utilize the links below to find the correct traffic receiver for your device:

NOTE: External Traffic receivers are no longer available for purchase through Garmin. See GTM 60 and GTM 36 Cables are Discontinued for more information.

  • For customers with GDB 50 MSN Direct receivers, Garmin no longer has a replacement traffic cable.
  • For customers with GDB 55, MSN Direct receivers use a GTM™ 36 traffic receiver.
