What is Zero Averaging on a Garmin Edge?
Zero averaging refers to the way that average cadence and power are calculated for a ride. With this set to Off, zero values are excluded when calculating your overall average. Your average for that ride will be higher as it will only calculate cadence or power when your cranks are turning or watts are registered. Compatible Edge® cycling computers can enable or disable power and cadence averaging individually.
Here is an example of how it works:
For a 60 second time period you coast for 30 seconds and pedal at 100 rpm for the other 30 seconds.
With zero averaging ON your average cadence would be 50.
With zero averaging OFF your average cadence would be 100.
Average Power would be impacted the exact same way.
For instructions to enable zero averaging on your Edge view your Owner's Manual and search for the keywords "Data Averaging".
