Blink Codes on a Garmin Autopilot ECU and CCU

The Garmin autopilot systems have status lights on the CCU and, if available, the ECU. The blink codes and an explanation of their meanings are listed in the tables below.


GHP 10, 12 and 20 CCU
Constant RedThe unit is in Boot Block Mode.
Slow Red BlinkThe unit is in *Comm Only Mode.
Slow Green BlinkThe unit is in Normal Mode.


*If the ECU 10 is in Comm Only, there may be an error on the Chartplotter or GHC that states ECU Not Present. The following troubleshooting steps may resolve the problem:

  • Ensure that the ECU 10 and the Reactor 40's NMEA 2000 power source are sharing a common ground

  • Try performing a software update, see FAQ

  • Inspect and or replace the interconnect cable

  • Repeat the software update

  • If the slow red blink continues, contact Product Support

Slow Red BlinkThe unit is in Force Update Mode.
Slow Green BlinkThe unit is in Normal Mode.
Fast Green BlinkThe unit is in Loader Mode (Loading Software)
Fast Red BlinkThe unit System Software is Corrupted
Red/Green BlinkThe unit System Software is Missing

Constant RedThe unit is in Force Update Mode
Slow Orange BlinkThe unit is in Force Update Mode
Slow Green BlinkThe unit is in Normal Mode
Fast Orange BlinkThe unit is in Loader/Test Mode

Slow Red BlinkThe unit is in Forced Update Mode
Slow Green BlinkThe unit is in Normal Mode
Fast Green BlinkThe unit is in Loader/Test Mode
Fast Orange BlinkThe unit System Software is Missing
Fast Red BlinkThe unit System Software is Corrupted

Off

Off: no Power

Off: accessory on - the line from CCU not asserted

The unit is in a test mode with LED off

The software has stopped running

Solid RED

The unit is in a test mode with the red LED on

The software has stopped running

1 blink RED/1 second OffThe unit is in boot block mode
Solid GREEN

The unit is in a test mode with the green LED on

The software has stopped running

1 blink GREEN/1 second OffThe unit is in normal mode (ECU is ready for use)
6 blink RED/ 2 blink GREENCommunication issue between the ECU and the CCU. First replace the interconnect cable/extension cables. If replacing cables doesn't resolve the issue then replace the CCU.
