Updating the internal operating software of a GWS 10
Since the GWS 10 does not have a way to connect to the computer, the GWS 10 cannot be updated by itself. There are two ways to update the GWS 10.
The first option is to connect GWS 10 to a Garmin Marine Chartplotter/Sounder over NMEA 2000. When the two devices are connected, performing a software update on the chartplotter/sounder will also update the operating system installed on the GWS 10. For information on how to update the device using a chartplotter/sounder, please review the Related Content.
For the second option, if a chartplotter/sounder connection over NMEA 2000 is not available, Garmin sells a NMEA 2000 Network Updater that can be installed in a NMEA 2000 network with the GWS 10. The update SD card can be inserted into the network updater and the update will be sent to the GWS 10 over the NMEA 2000 network.
