Garmin Express Does Not Support This Device Please Use Garmin Map Updater or WebUpdater
If there is an issue communicating with an outdoor handheld device, the Garmin Express™ program may display a message that the device is not supported and to use either Map Updater or WebUpdater instead, even if the handheld is actually compatible with Garmin Express.
Garmin Express does not support this device. Please use Garmin Map Updater.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this message:
Verify the handheld is compatible with Garmin Express (see
below
).
Answer Yes on the handheld to any prompt to enter mass storage mode when plugging into a computer.
Ensure the device interface is set to Garmin Spanner or Garmin Serial. Refer to the owner's manual for assistance in changing the interface on the handheld.
Close out other Garmin applications that may be actively reading the handheld.
If there is a microSD card in the device, remove the card, then try adding the device to Garmin Express again.
Try a different USB cable, if available.
This needs to be a data transfer cable in order to allow communication between the device and computer.
Try a different USB port, if possible.
Ensure the handheld device is plugged directly into the computer or laptop and not a USB hub.
Restart the computer.
On Windows computers, try running Garmin Express as an administrator (see
below
).
If a handheld that was already added in the Garmin Express program list is now showing as unsupported, try removing the handheld and then add it again (see
below
).
