Waypoint Averaging on the Montana 700 Series
Waypoint averaging allows you to refine a waypoint location for more accuracy. When averaging, the device takes several GPS readings at the same location uses the average value to provide more accuracy. There are two ways of accessing waypoint averaging on the Montana® 700, 700i, or 750i outdoor handheld.
Creating a New Waypoint With Waypoint Averaging
By default, Waypoint Averaging is not listed in the main menu, but it can easily be added.
Adding Waypoint Averaging to the Main Menu
Touch
to access the main menu.
Select Add Page.
Select Waypoint Averaging.
Using Waypoint Averaging From the Main Menu
Touch
to access the main menu.
Select Waypoint Averaging.
A list of saved waypoints will be displayed.
Select + Create Waypoint.
Wait for the confidence status bar to each 100%, then select Save.
Select Done.
A list of saved waypoints will be displayed again, including the new waypoint.
TIP: To save additional samples, select the new waypoint from the list, then Start.
For best results, collect four to eight samples for the new waypoint, waiting at least 90 minutes between samples.
Averaging a Previously Saved Waypoint
Touch
to access the main menu.
Select Waypoint Manager.
Select a waypoint from the list.
Select

Select Average Location.
Move to the waypoint location.
Select Start.
Wait for the confidence status bar to each 100%, then select Save.
Select Done.
Repeat steps 7 thru 9 to save additional samples if desired.
For best results, collect four to eight samples for the new waypoint, waiting at least 90 minutes between samples.
