How Often Do Fitness Devices Emit a Wi-Fi Signal?

Some Garmin® fitness devices have the ability to connect to a Wi-Fi® network, allowing the device to automatically upload saved activities, and download available software updates.

When Auto Upload is enabled the device will turn on Wi-Fi search once there is new data to upload. If the device is unable to find a Wi-Fi signal, the device will continue to turn on Wi-Fi search every five minutes for up to an hour to check for a valid signal. The check is very quick to minimize the impact to battery life. If a valid signal is not found within that hour the new data will not be uploaded automatically and a manual sync would need to be performed to upload the new data.

Disabling Auto Upload will cause the Wi-Fi to turn on only when a manual Wi-Fi sync is enabled.
