Reporting Map Errors on Automotive Devices
Garmin's map data is provided by an outside vendor. All map information, including addresses, businesses, speed limits, and trucking data, is gathered through a number of different agencies including local governments, principalities, etc. There may be an occasion where something is not reported correctly or wasn't able to be changed in time for the new version of mapping to be released.
We have provided an Error Report Form on our website allowing you to submit any findings regarding missing or incomplete locations or streets in the mapping.
The information will be sent to our cartography department and to the mapping vendor. This helps us provide our customers with the most accurate mapping possible.
Examples of Map Errors:
The destination is in the wrong location on the map.
Incorrect Speed Limit information.
Point of interest has moved or no longer exist.
Device routing off of the road/trail (i.e. the path of road/trail is mapped incorrectly).
Map feature improperly named/numbered (roads/trails, water features, landscape features, etc.).
Road improperly named/numbered.
Incorrect Truck restrictions (e.g. incorrect bridge height in the map).
Fill out the Error Report Form to submit any findings regarding missing or incomplete locations or streets in the mapping.

Common Questions and Answers:
Where does our map data come from?
The majority of our data comes from a 3rd party data provider; HERE Technologies.
Why do some roads/highways show up with different names, i.e. "US 29" vs "Columbine Rd"
A number of highways have multiple names: e.g. - the state/shielded name or the local/city name.
The data is structured to display the name on the road signs at the given location.
The goal is to try to match what is shown on the signs on the ground.
This will assist the driver in matching the road names and addressing on the device to the signs he or she is seeing in real life while driving.
How long does it take to add something to our maps when a new housing addition/road/business is built?
This can vary depending on the issue.
We will work with our internal teams and data providers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
