Displaying Engine Data on a Garmin Chartplotter

Some Garmin devices are able to display engine data like RPM, Fuel Level, MPH, Voltage, Trim Tab Angle, Temperature, and Oil using the NMEA 2000 or J1939 network.

Requirements

  • NMEA 2000 or J1939* Compatible Chartplotter/Sounder or Instrument Display
  • NMEA 2000 or J1939* Compatible Engine or Engine Gateway

If your chartplotter does not support NMEA 2000/J1939, it will not be able to display this type of data.

*When a J1939 compatible Yamaha engine is connected to a 7400/7600 or 8400/8600 series device a Yamaha interface display will become available, see related content for further information.

Accessing the Engine Data page

  1. From the Home screen, choose Information or Gauges
  2. Choose Engines
    • If using a GPSMAP 4x0 or 5x0 series device, first choose Dashboard and then choose Engine
    • If using a GPSMAP 7x0 series device, first choose Dashboard Gauges and then choose Engine

You can change which data is displayed (RPM, oil pressure, etc.) as well as how it is displayed (analog vs digital, etc.) by pressing Menu > Gauge Setup.

NOTE:  Not all chartplotters will have all display options. Consult the Owner's Manual of your device for more information on setting up and configuring the gauges.
