How to Reset My Garmin Outdoor Watch

Generally, Garmin does not recommend performing a reset on your watch, but there are some instances where resetting the watch may help.

  • The watch is not receiving a satellite signal.

  • To restore the watch to default factory settings.

  • The watch is in the wrong language.

  • The watch no longer responds, is stuck or frozen.

Performing a Hard Reset

If your watch is frozen, not responding, or has lost connection with your smartphone, a hard reset is recommended. This will not delete any of your user data.

  1. Hold the POWER button.

NOTE: You may need to hold for up to 30 seconds.

  2. When the watch face goes blank, release POWER.

  3. Press POWER to turn the watch back on.

If the hard reset does not work, another method to reset the watch can be tried. Select the heading below for steps on the reset.

Other Resets

After performing one of the resets listed below, learned fitness values for advanced fitness metrics will be reset during this process including: VO2 max, Training Effect, and more. The watch will need to relearn this data after performing a reset. Some of the information will be restored once you sync with Garmin Connect if your watch supports Physio TrueUp.

NOTE: Not all fitness data can be synced through Physio TrueUp. To learn more about what watches support Physio TrueUp and what data can be synced, see What is Physio TrueUp?

If your watch is paired to your phone, you will need to pair the watch back to the phone after resetting. For help on pairing your watch to your phone, refer to your owner's manual
