Tracking Contacts and Messaging on the Alpha 100
You can track other hunters in your group and know where they are at all times and send messages to these contacts. The following will show the steps to add and pair an Alpha® 100 and another Alpha® dog tracking handhelds for contact tracking and messaging.
Contact Tracking must be turned on for these features to be enabled. It is turned OFF by default.
Turning on Contact Transmitting on the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select
Select Pairing Setup.
Ensure Transmitting is set to On.
Adding a Contact to your Alpha 100 Handheld
Select your device below:
Alpha 300 or Alpha 300i Handheld
On the Alpha 300
Ensure that tracking is turned on.
Tap the Power Button.
Select My ID.
Select Transmitting to say On.
Paring with the Alpha 300
From the Main Menu, select Dog List.
Select the Contacts tab near the top middle of the screen.
Select Pair.
On the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Add.
Select Yes.
Enter the name of the contact.
Select the Checkmark to confirm.
The Alpha 300 will now show in the contacts and on the Map Screen, but will not show on the Dog Compass.
Alpha 200 or Alpha 200i Handheld
On the Alpha 200
Ensure that tracking is turned on.
Tap the Power Button.
Select My ID.
Select Transmitting to say On.
Paring with the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select Dog List.
Select the Contacts tab near the top middle of the screen.
Select Pair.
On the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Add.
Select Yes.
Enter the name of the contact.
Select the Checkmark to confirm.
The Alpha 200 will now show in the contacts and on the Map Screen, but will not show on the Dog Compass.
Alpha 10
On your Alpha 10 Handheld
Press Menu to bring up the main menu.
Select Setup.
Select Transmission ID.
Ensure Status is On.
Make note of the ID number, that will be entered in the second handheld in the next steps.
On the Alpha 100 Handheld
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Add.
When prompted Are you near the other Handheld?, select No.
When prompted Do you know the ID for the Contact?, select Yes.
Select the Alpha 10's ID number.
Enter a name for the Alpha 10 contact, when done typing, confirm with the checkmark in bottom right of keyboard.
Touch Okay.
The Alpha 10 will now show in the contacts and on the Map Screen, but will not show on the Dog Compass.
Adding your Alpha 100 to a Compatible Handheld
Select your device below:
Alpha 300 or Alpha 300i Handheld
On the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Pair.
On the Alpha 300
From the Main Menu, select Dog List.
Select the Contacts tab near the top middle of the screen.
Select Add.
Select Pair Handheld.
Enter a name for the Alpha 100 contact, when done typing, confirm with checkmark in bottom right of keyboard.
Select Finish.
The Alpha 100 will now show in the contacts, on the map screen and in the dog compass for tracking on the Alpha 300.
Alpha 200 or Alpha 200i Handheld
On the Alpha 100
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Pair.
On the Alpha 200
From the Main Menu, select Dog List.
Select the Contacts tab near the top middle of the screen.
Select Add.
Select Pair Handheld.
Enter a name for the Alpha 100 contact, when done typing, confirm with checkmark in bottom right of keyboard.
Select Finish.
The Alpha 100 will now show in the contacts, on the map screen and in the dog compass for tracking on the Alpha 200.
Alpha 10
On the Alpha 100 Handheld
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select
Select Pairing Setup.
Ensure Transmitting is set to On.
Make note of the ID number. NOTE: The ID number will be entered in the Alpha 10 in the next steps.
On the Alpha 10 Handheld
Press the Menu key to bring up the Main Menu.
Select Add Device.
Select Contact.
Enter the ID number from the other handheld.
Enter a name for the contact.
Select Done.
Your Alpha will now show on your Alpha 10 handheld's Tracked Device list.
Messaging on the Alpha 100
Your Alpha 100 can send preset messages to your contacts when in range. These messages work through VHF communication and do not require a subscription.
Sending A Message
From the Main Menu, select at the bottom of the screen.
Select Contacts.
Select Messages.
Select a preset message that will send to your contacts.
Receiving a Message
When receiving a message on the Alpha 100 you will get a message prompt on the screen as seen below.
Note: On the Alpha 100 you can not view a message after it has been received and prompted on the display.
Contact Tracking Range
The Alpha series handhelds have a contact tracking range similar to the dog tracking collars. Expected range for contact tracking is up to 9 miles in optimal conditions.
