Installing the Yamaha Command Link Digital to Analog converter for use with my Garmin Autopilot
The function of the converter is to change a digital tachometer signal on the Yamaha Command Link bus to an analog signal that can be read by a Garmin autopilot.
Here is a list of the contents of the Digital to Analog Converter with part number MAR-6X6DA-C0-00, note all numbers is parenthesis correspond to the numbers on the picture at the bottom of this article:
- Converter (1)
- Wire Harness (2)
Here are the wire harness color codes:
- Black(6) - Ground (negative)
- Green(7) - Single or Port engine tachometer signal output.
- Green/White(8) - Twin or triple engine Starboard tachometer signal output. If this lead is not used it must be taped back and sealed to prevent an electrical short and/or water intrusion.
Here are the Installation Instructions:
- Connect the black six-pin connector (3) to the converter (1).
- Connect the white four-pin connector (4) to an open "DEVICE" connector on the Yamaha Command Link Hub (5).
- Mount the converter (1) in a protected area close to where the Black and Green output leads connect to the Garmin autopilot. The mounting holes (9) in the converter should be used to securely mount the converter to the dash or bulkhead.
- Attach a female/socket water resistant connector as needed to the bare green lead(s) and a male/plug connector(s) to the bare black lead from the harness.
- Secure the wire harness with clamps or cable ties to prevent undue stress on the wire leads and connectors.
