Microsoft .NET Framework Error While Installing or Using a Garmin Application

Microsoft .NET Framework is the foundation for Garmin applications.

If Microsoft .NET Framework displays an error during the installation or operation of an application, the problem will need to be resolved before the application can be used.

Versions of Microsoft .NET Framework Required by Garmin Applications:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1:

  • Garmin VIRB Edit

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6: 

  • Garmin BaseCamp™ software
  • Garmin HomePort

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2:

  • Garmin Express™ software

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.7:

  • inReach Sync

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5:

  • All other current applications

Resolution - Check for Windows Updates:

NOTE: If you do not feel comfortable with the steps below, use another updated, compatible computer.

To resolve an issue with Microsoft .NET Framework, first ensure that all Windows updates are installed. This will install the latest updates to .NET Framework too.


Windows 10 or Newer

1. Click the Windows Start icon.

2. Click the gear Settings gear.

3. Click Refresh Arrows Update & Security.

  • Skip this step on some computers

4. If necessary, click Refresh Arrows Windows Update.

5. Click Check for updates.

If the issue persists, download and run Microsoft's .NET Framework Repair Tool.  If you encounter issues with Microsoft's .NET Framework Repair Tool, contact Microsoft. 

After repairing the .NET Framework with this tool, Garmin applications should install and launch.
