Using Database Concierge on G1000 NXi with Flight Stream 510

Readiness Checklist

  • Obtain aircraft System ID  Where can I find the System ID on my G1000?.

    • Visit aircraft and locate “AUX” page group on the MFD, using large FMS knob.

    • Use small FMS knob to locate “System Status” page.

    • Record System ID.

  • Have an active Garmin Pilot™ aviation app subscription.

  • Have a flyGarmin® account for desired aircraft.

    • Visit https://fly.garmin.com/fly-garmin/ and create a new account.

    • Login and press “Devices” tab.

    • Add aircraft – this step requires tail number, serial number, year, make, and model.

    • Add G1000® NXi flight deck to that aircraft – must have System ID.

    • Buy desired databases for aircraft.


Jeppesen Databases

Database Concierge and Database Sync are compatible with subscriptions to Jeppesen databases.  There are two methods to link Jeppesen and FlyGarmin accounts. If the aircraft only uses Jeppesen Charts, follow the instructions in the Jeppesen Charts section. If the aircraft subscribes to all Jeppesen databases, follow the instructions in the subsequent section. Skip this section if Garmin databases have been purchased.


Jeppesen Charts Only

    1. Open Garmin Pilot on the portable device and login using flyGarmin credentials.

    2. Link Jeppesen and Garmin Pilot accounts.

      1. Home >Settings > Jeppesen

      2. Log into Jeppesen account.

    3. Select a license to activate. The tail number in Jeppesen must match the tail number of the aircraft in flyGarmin.

    4. Activate the license and download all the Jeppesen database files to the portable device. 

    5. Do a Database Concierge sync by pressing Home > Connext > Sync Now.

All Jeppesen Databases

Jepp 

    • Press “Enable Jeppesen Integration”

    • Current Jeppesen subscriptions will show under “Current Subscriptions”. Jeppesen databases must be purchased through Jeppesen; contact Jeppesen for assistance with database purchasing.


Prepare Garmin Pilot for Database Transfer

Note: Internet connection is needed to complete these steps. If you are already a Garmin Pilot user with Database Concierge set up, skip to step 9.

  1. Open Garmin Pilot on portable device and login using flyGarmin credentials.

  2. Press “Home or More”

  3. Press “Connext/Devices” 

  4. Go to “Database Concierge” tab

  5. Press “Enable Database Concierge”

  6. The aircraft should auto populate.  If the aircraft doesn’t populate, press “Sync Aircraft & Devices from flyGarmin”

  7. Choose appropriate Download Settings

  8. Press “Continue”

  9. Press “Home”

  10. Press “Downloads” 

    •  

  11. Press “Database Concierge Downloads”

  12. If Automatic Downloading is enabled for Database Concierge, verify that databases were downloaded by seeing a green check next to each database. 

    •  

  13. If Automatic Downloading is not enabled, tap each database to initiate the download and then verify the databases are downloaded by seeing a green check next to each database.

  14. Once all databases are downloaded onto the portable device, Garmin Pilot is ready to transfer databases to the aircraft.


Transfer Databases to G1000 NXi

  1. Power on G1000 NXi with Flight Stream 510 wireless gateway installed in the bottom slot of the MFD.

  2. On G1000 NXi, navigate to the AUX – Connext Setup page using the FMS knobs.

  3. Ensure the portable device is connected to Flight Stream 510 Bluetooth network.

  4. Open Garmin Pilot application on portable device

  5. G1000 NXi provides a notification that updates are available – if no notification is seen, skip to next section for an alternative method.  

  6. Press “Update” softkey.

  7. Flight Stream 510 will activate Wi-Fi network.  Connect the portable device to the Flight Stream Wi-Fi network.  Note: This will require exiting Garmin Pilot and connecting to Wi-Fi in portable device settings. Wi-Fi network and password information are located on the Connext Setup page on G1000 NXi.

  8. Reopen Garmin Pilot to start transfer automatically.

  9. Press “View” softkey on G1000 NXi to monitor progress of transfer.  Transfer progress can also be seen on the Database Concierge page in Garmin Pilot (Home>Connext>Database Concierge).

  10. After transfer is complete, restart avionics to activate transferred databases.


If Manual Update Is Required

  1. Power on G1000 NXi with Flight Stream 510 installed.

  2. Ensure the portable device is connected to Flight Stream 510 Bluetooth network.

  3. Open Garmin Pilot on the portable device.

  4. On G1000 NXi, use large FMS knob to navigate to “AUX” page group.

  5. Use small FMS knob to navigate to “Databases” page.

  6. Press soft key labeled “Device” and the portable device should now be reflected in the right-hand column.  

  7. Press FMS knob.

  8. Use large FMS knob to scroll through available databases.

  9. Press ENT key to select databases to transfer.  Selected databases are indicated by a cyan arrow pointing from the portable device to standby storage.

  10. Press soft-key labeled “Update”

  11. Connect portable device to the Flight Stream Wi-Fi network. Note: This will require exiting Garmin Pilot and connecting to Wi-Fi in portable device settings. Wi-Fi network and password information are located on the Connext Setup page on G1000 NXi.

  12. Reopen Garmin Pilot to start transfer.

  13. Transfer progress will be visible on the G1000 NXi, as well as the Database Concierge page in Garmin Pilot (Home>Connext>Database Concierge).

  14. After transfer is complete, restart avionics to activate transferred databases.
