Using Voice Control on a Garmin Dash Cam

Available Voice Commands

You can use several commands to control the dash cam.  Substitute "OK Dash Cam" for "OK Garmin" if you have changed your wake word.

• Save a video: Say "OK Garmin, Save Video."

• Record audio with the video: Say "OK Garmin, Record Audio."

• Stop recording audio: Say "OK Garmin, Stop Audio."

• Take a picture: Say "OK Garmin, Take a Picture."¹

• Start Travelapse™: Say "OK Garmin, Start Travelapse."²

• Stop Travelapse: Say "OK Garmin, Stop Travelapse."^{2 3}

The camera will play a tone after you say OK Garmin to acknowledge that it's listening and second tone when it recognizes your command.

¹Garmin Dash Cam™ Mini 3, Garmin Dash Cam™ X110, Garmin Dash Cam™ X210 and Garmin Dash Cam™ X310 driving recorders do not take pictures.

²Garmin Dash Cam™ Mini 3, Garmin Dash Cam™ Mini 2 and Garmin Dash Cam™ Tandem driving recorders do not offer Travelapse.

³While the Promptly Delete video option is selected in dash cam settings or in the Garmin Drive app, you cannot record Travelapse videos.  See Related Content.

Voice Control Tips

• Speak in a normal voice directed at the device.

• Reduce background noise to increase the accuracy of the voice recognition.

• Before each command, say the wake word. The default wake word is OK, Garmin.

• Listen for a tone to confirm that the camera successfully recognized a command.

• Change the wake word if you have more than one Garmin® device with voice control features. 

Turning Voice Control On or Off

On devices with a built-in display:

• Select  > Voice Control > Settings > and select an option.

Via the Garmin Drive app⁴ when your dash cam is paired and connected to your compatible smartphone:

• From the device settings menu, select Voice Commands, and select an option.
