Download, View, or Delete BirdsEye Direct Satellite Imagery on an Alpha 200 Handheld
BirdsEye Direct is a preloaded service with no annual service fee for BirdsEye Satellite Imagery only. To use this feature, a Wi-Fi connection is needed on the device. For instructions on connecting to a Wi-Fi network, refer to your owner's manual.
NOTE: As of mid-February 2020, we upgraded our BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. The BirdsEye 2.0 Imagery provides newer, clearer imagery in most areas.
Things to Keep in Mind with BirdsEye Direct
- Download only the areas where you are going to need the satellite imagery.
- Download all needed imagery areas before heading out on your trip.
- BirdsEye Direct download imagery can only be viewed on the device that it is downloaded to.

- If the handheld is brand new or was recently restored to factory defaults, it needs to acquire an initial GPS fix prior to using BirdsEye Direct.
Downloading BirdsEye Direct Imagery
- Select BirdsEye Direct.
- Select Download Imagery.
- Make any desired changes.
- Location - Allows you to select a location other than your current location.
- Name - Allows you to edit the name of the imagery.
- Detail - Allows you to choose from Standard, High, or Highest.
- Radius - Allows you to change the area radius for the download.
- Select Download.
- If you have a microSD card inserted, it will ask you to select a location for the BirdsEye file to be downloaded to.
- File size and estimated download time will display during the download.
The handheld can continue to be used while the imagery is downloading. It is important to remember to stay within range of the Wi-Fi network while downloading the imagery.
Once downloaded, it will appear in the BirdsEye Direct list with the name, size of the file and if it is saved to the internal memory or microSD card.
Viewing the BirdsEye Direct Imagery on the Map
To see the imagery on the map, select the image from the BirdsEye Direct list and then View Map.
The imagery will also appear on the Map page when you are located in the area, or if you move the map to that area by swiping on the map itself.
Deleting Unwanted BirdsEye Direct Download Images
- Select BirdsEye Direct.
- Select the imagery to delete.
- Select Delete.
