Getting Started With Tracking in the Earthmate App

The Earthmate® app is the companion mobile app for your compatible inReach® handheld. Tracking is the uploading of your position coordinates so others can follow your trip progress via your MapShare™ page. Tracking requires an active inReach satellite subscription to function and may be started either on the inReach device or with the Earthmate app. For steps on setting up MapShare, see - Setting up MapShare in the Earthmate App.

IMPORTANT: With the Safety1 and Essential plans, there is an additional cost per point (varies by currency) using the Send Interval. As an example, if your Send Interval is set to 30 minutes and you had tracking on for 1 hour, you could be charged for 3 track points. For more details, see - Understanding Charges for Tracking on inReach Safety and Essential Plans.

Tracking With the Earthmate App

Tracking can be started in the app with or without an inReach device actively paired. However, track points will only be sent to your MapShare page via satellite when an inReach device is actively paired.

When an inReach handheld is actively paired, changes made to tracking (starting, stopping, track settings) in the Earthmate app will also reflect on the paired inReach handheld and track points will be sent to your MapShare page via satellite.

Starting Tracking in the Earthmate App

  1. Open the Earthmate app.

  2. Touch Three Lines Menu Icon to open the menu.

  3. Touch Tracking.

  4. Touch Start.

Tracking will then start in the Earthmate app and on the paired inReach handheld.

NOTE: This setting is called Moving Interval when using an inReach SE® satellite communicator with the app, or Interval when using inReach Original devices (inReach for Android, inReach for PN-60w, inReach for Smartphones).

    • Select Log Interval to change the frequency at which the connected inReach device logs your location and updates the track line in the device's memory when you are moving.

NOTE: This setting is not available when using an inReach SE satellite communicator or inReach Original devices (inReach for Android, inReach for PN-60w, inReach for Smartphones).
