Pairing the Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa to the Garmin Drive App

To use the Garmin DriveSmart™ 65 with Amazon Alexa GPS navigator with a smartphone and Alexa features, it must be paired with a smartphone using the Garmin Drive™ app

Installing Garmin Drive App  

First, it is necessary to install the free Garmin Drive app to your compatible smartphone. For information on compatible mobile platforms and automotive devices, see the FAQ Garmin Drive App Compatibility and Availability

Once you have confirmed that your phone and automotive device are able to communicate via the Garmin Drive app, the next step is to download the app to your phone. For steps, see the FAQ Installing the Garmin Drive App

To Pair the Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa Device to the Garmin Drive App, Select your Phone's Operating System Below:  


Android

1. Open the Garmin Drive app

  • You may need to first enable your phone's Bluetooth
  • Refer to the owner's manual for your phone if you are not sure how to enable Bluetooth

2. In the Drive app, if prompted, check the agree to the terms and touch Next

3. Agree to the Warning

4. Touch Navigation Device in the Garmin Drive app

5. On the Garmin device, touch Settings

6. Touch Wireless Networks

7. If no checkmark is present, check the box next to Bluetooth

8. Touch Pair when prompted on your phone

9. Touch Yes if prompted on the Garmin device

10. Touch OK if prompted

11.  If prompted, touch Continue to agree to the Privacy Policy:

12. Touch Sign In. If you don't have an account touch Create Account

13. Pairing is now complete. Touch Continue to start the setup of the Alexa features.

15. Touch Yes or No depending on if you use Bluetooth to connect your smartphone to your vehicle or not

16.  If you selected 'No' to Bluetooth connection with your car, touch Continue and proceed to step #22 below.

17. If you selected 'Yes' and can play music from your phone to your vehicle

(You will need to have your phone connected with your vehicle via Bluetooth to complete the calibration).

18. Touch Continue to calibrate the Bluetooth audio

19. Touch OK to start the audio calibration if prompted.

  • Allow permission for Drive to record audio if prompted.

 22. Touch Sign In with Amazon

  • Follow the prompts to sign into your Amazon account or Create an Amazon account and allow Drive app access to voice services.
  • NOTE: Signing into an Amazon Alexa account (activating Alexa) is required in the set up process of the Garmin Drive app. There would not be any way to disable the feature other than to remove the device from the Garmin Drive app or disable the Bluetooth pairing between the phone and the device.

25. The device will now be ready to use in the Garmin Drive app

1. Open the Garmin Drive app on your phone and set your phone to Find Me/Discoverable mode

Note: If you are not sure how to set your phone to Find Me/Discoverable mode, refer to the owner's manual or documentation that came with the cell phone. 

2. On the Garmin device, touch Settings

3. Touch Wireless Networks

4. If no checkmark is present, check the box next to Bluetooth

5. In the Drive app if prompted, switch the toggle on to agree to the terms and touch Next

  • Allow permissions for Bluetooth and notifications if prompted.

9. Touch the name of the Garmin device from the list of compatible Bluetooth devices in the area

  • You will need to have your phone connected to your vehicle via Bluetooth to complete the calibration.
