Create a Custom Start Up Message on an Edge Cycling Computer
Many Edge cycling computers can display a customized welcome message on the startup splash screen. If you lose your Edge cycling computer, a custom start up message may help you get it back.
Customizing the Start Up Text
Select your operating system below to display instructions:
Windows
Connect the Edge to a computer with a USB data cable.
Open File Explorer on your computer.
Access the Garmin drive when it appears then open the Garmin folder.
Locate the file named startup.txt.
Drag the Startup.txt file to the desktop and open the file.
Edit the message. Make note of the instructions on this file. The maximum number of characters is 256.
Save these changes by pressing Ctrl + S on your keyboard.
Exit the Notepad window.
Drag the edited startup.txt file back to the Garmin folder and select "Replace the file in the destination".
After saving the file, the customized message will display on the device when powering on.
Connect the device to computer with a USB data cable.
Once your Edge is recognized open the Garmin drive on the desktop of your computer.
Or, open the Finder application then access the Garmin drive.
Open the Garmin folder. Set to view as List.
Click and drag the file named startup.txt to the Desktop background.
Open the copied file named startup.txt and edit the message. Make note of the instructions on this file. The maximum number of characters is 256. In this window, you can adjust how many seconds your custom message displays.
Exit the startup.txt window. It will automatically save your changes.
Replace the original startup.txt file in the Garmin folder of the Edge device with the edited copy from the Desktop.
Eject your Edge then unplug it from your Mac computer.
After saving the file, the customized message will display on the device when powering on.
