Vehicle Cable Error Message on an Automotive Device

If the device is presenting an error when connected to the vehicle cable, the USB port on the device may not be properly recognizing the cable.

Symptoms of this Include:

  • The device displays the error Attached Power Cable is Not Supported.
  • The device displays the error The connected power cable does not support traffic.
  • Car Charger is loose when connected to the device.
  • A USB cable is being used to charge the device instead of the provided Car Charger.
  • Devices that use GTM cables may go into MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode when the cable is connected.
    • MTP mode is indicated by an image of the device connected to the computer. This should only appear when connected to the computer.

To Resolve this Issue:

  1. Update the software on the device using Garmin Express1
  2. Verify that the cable being used is the cable that came with the device (should be a TA or a GTM cable)
    • Third party cables may not properly work with the device and could cause the error in question.
  3. Ensure that the Car Charger is inserted into the mini-USB port on the device completely and securely

If the steps above fail to resolve the issue, you will need to contact Product Support for further assistance.
