Maps and/or POI Categories Installed to a Garmin Device or microSD/SD Card Fail to Display in BaseCamp

BaseCamp™ software programs are able to read certain maps from Garmin devices and SD cards when attached to the computer.

There are several reasons that maps may not display in BaseCamp or software when the maps display correctly on the device, see below for troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting for Maps and/or POI Categories Not Displaying in BaseCamp Software

• Ensure that the program is up to date.

  • Windows:

    1. Click Help.

    2. Click Check for Software Updates.

       • Current versions of BaseCamp do not have this option. Instead, these versions check for updates when the program is launched. For more details, see - How to Install or Update Garmin BaseCamp.

  • Mac OS X:

    1. Click BaseCamp on the menu bar.

    2. Click Check for Updates.

• Ensure that the device software is up to date: https://support.garmin.com/ql/?focus=software.

• If the maps and/or POI categories were displaying previously, but have stopped displaying, delete the BaseCamp CardProductCache folder:

  •  Windows:

    1. Press the Windows key + R.

    2. Type %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Garmin\

    3. Click OK.

    4. Open the BaseCamp folder.

    5. Right-click on the CardProductCache folder and choose Delete.

  • Mac OS X:

    1. Press Command key + Spacebar.

    2. Type ~/Library/Caches/com.garmin.BaseCamp

    3. Open the Folder.

    4. Drag the CardProductCache folder to the trash.

    5. Empty the Trash.

• If the maps and/or POI categories were installed to the device or card using MapSource® or MapInstall software, they will need to be installed on to the computer in order to view them in the BaseCamp program.

• BaseCamp software will recognize all MapSource products except BlueChart® maps.

• BaseCamp programs cannot read the maps or POI categories from a Garmin mode device. 

• If maps on a preprogrammed SD card inserted into a Garmin device cannot be read by BaseCamp software, try inserting the card into an SD card reader on the computer instead.

• If using an Outdoor Garmin mode device with an SD card, the device will need to be placed into mass storage mode in order to access the maps on the card. For instructions, see Viewing Files Using USB Mass Storage Mode.

The maps and/or POI categories should now display in BaseCamp software.
