Frequently Asked Questions for the Xero A1 Bow Sights

Following is frequently asked questions for the Xero A1 bow sights.

Pin, Reticle or Aim Point Brightness Changes Automatically on Xero Sights

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sights and Xero® X1i crossbow scope contain an ambient light sensor that will automatically adjust pin and reticle or aimpoint brightness when moving from light or dark areas. This will be especially obvious when moving from indoor to outdoor environments. If you do not want the pin or aim point brightness to adjust automatically you can turn off the feature.

For instructions on turning off the feature review the Adjusting Brightness section of the Xero A1 owner's manual, A1i PRO owner's manual, or Xero X1i owner's manual.

Xero Bow Sight or Crossbow Scope Resets or Reboots While Ranging a Target

If your Xero® bow sight or crossbow scope resets when attempting to range a target, it may be due to the batteries being used. The Xero sights/scopes require lithium AAA batteries to provide the proper voltage. Alkaline AAA batteries are not supported and will prevent the device from functioning properly.

Even if brand new AAA lithium batteries are being used one battery may be defective, physically damaged or at a lower voltage. We recommend swapping lithium batteries if the device is resetting while ranging a target.

Top Pin Missing or Barely Visible on Xero Bow Sight

If the top pin on the Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, or Xero® A1i PRO bow sight seems to be missing or is barely visible at the top of the sight, the pitch of the mount may need to adjusted. This can be achieved by adjusting where the mounting hardware attaches to the curved rail on the back of the bow sight itself. Ideally, you should be looking straight through the mount, just like a rifle scope, when the bow is fully drawn.

Different Types of Trigger Presses on the Xero Series

The ranging button on the Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, Xero® A1i PRO, and Xero® X1i bow sights performs different functions depending on how it is pressed.

  • Holding - Pressing and holding for one second or longer until "Range" is displayed takes a range.
    • Releasing the button generates a ranged aim point.
  • Tapping - A short tap toggles between the ranging screen and fixed aim points.
  • Pressing - A short press (longer than a tap but less than a hold) populates the last range taken.

Ranging Modes on the Xero A1i PRO

Various ranging modes on the Xero® A1i PRO bow sight allow the user to account for any hunting environment or terrain, whether you are ranging through dense cover or across an open field.

The Xero A1i PRO sight can be set to one of 3 different ranging modes: Recent, Minimum, and Maximum. Each of these modes has its own useful application in the field.

Ranging Modes

  • RECENT - The default ranging mode will give the user the most accurate or "true" range and requires a clear unobstructed view of the target. Ideal for most environments.
  • MINIMUM - This ranging mode allows the user to scan a target with a spotty background. If the user is not steady and accidentally ranges behind the target, the sight will hold on the minimum value ranged and provide a pin for that distance. Ideal when the target is too far away and positioned in front of a backdrop, such as a group of trees.
  • MAXIMUM - This ranging mode allows the user to scan a target through cover or brush and hold on to the maximum distance recognized by the sight to provide a pin. Ideal when the target is in wooded conditions where the range finder might detect leaves or other interference.

Understanding and Using Flight Apex With the Xero A1i PRO

Flight Apex is an advanced feature of the Xero® A1i PRO bow sight. Flight Apex displays a flashing point above the Aim Point that shows the highest estimated position the arrow reaches during its flight path.

Example

Flight Apex PIC

Enabling Flight Apex

This Flight Apex feature is useful for shooting through dense cover, or when the view is obstructed, as the highlighted upper arc of the arrow's flight path will allow the you to tell if there is an obstruction in the vertical flight path of the arrow.

NOTE: The Dynamic Level feature will be disabled while Flight Apex is active. See Understanding and Using the Dynamic Level Feature of the Xero A1i PRO for more information on the Dynamic Level feature.

  1. Select Xero A1i PRO ICON SettingsMenu from the Main Menu.
  2. Select Pro Settings.
  3. Select Flight Apex On.

Offset Between Red and Green Pins

The pins for the Xero® A1i bow sight are very small LEDs that are placed side by side which causes the red and green pins to appear slightly offset when alternating a fixed pin setup. However, if shooting within 40 yards this offset will not be significant enough to cause an issue.

For those shooting long distances (50+ yards), we recommend using one color for all of the fixed pins. The color you use should be the same as the ranged pin color that was chosen during the initial setup and calibration.

Ranging Through Glass or Water With Xero Bow and Crossbow Sights

Xero® bow sights and crossbow scopes are not designed to provide ranges through water, glass, or other clear objects.

While the objects may be clear or transparent they will still reflect some emitted laser light back to the rangefinder causing incorrect readings.

Xero A1i PRO Center Shot and Offset

The concept of center shot is the relation of the perfect aligning of the arrow rest to that of the nocking point for the arrow on the bowstring. Given how the Xero® A1i PRO bow sight operates, proper center shot setup is very important. Different bow manufacturers and cam designs will have an affect on this process and positioning.

New options in the archery market advertise an improved sight picture and easier tuning, but also require different adjustments from those used prior. If these adjustments are made improperly, users of the Xero A1i PRO sight may experience running out of windage adjustment. We intentionally limit the windage adjustment on the Xero bow sight from being set to a position where it would become potentially unsafe for the archer due to arrow/shelf contact.

Typically, center shot will sit at a measurement of 13/16th of an inch to 15/16th of an inch. However, its important to check the manufacturer's specifications for the best recommendations.

NOTE: We recommend all bow adjustments and setup be performed by a professional archery technician.

Draw Length and Draw Weight Restrictions for Xero Bow Sights

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sights do not have any set standard for draw length or draw weight. You should be able to mount the bow sight to any bow with standard bow sight mounts.

Shot Dynamics

Shot Dynamics on the Xero® A1i bow sight and Xero® X1i crossbow scope provide additional shot information that can help improve archer performance. Using an internal accelerometer and other information, data is provided on bow level at release and impulse duration.

Impulse duration is the amount of time the bow is shaking during the time of string/arrow/bolt release.

Ranging of Moving Targets using Xero Bow Sights

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sights are capable of providing range information on moving targets. The user would just need to ensure they are sighted on the moving target with the trigger button pressed.

Edit Arrow Profile Range Pins or Fixed Pins for the Xero A1i

Using Water Repellent Products on the Xero Bow Sights

The Xero® bow sights use a hydrophobic lens that is designed to bead and avoid water accumulation on the lens itself. Use of water repellent products, such as RainX, is not recommended and could damage the coating on the lens.

Maximum Number of Shots for the Shot Odometer on Xero Bow Sights

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sight shot odometer can store up to 65,500 shots in a single session and 4.2 billion shots in the total shot odometer. Keep in mind that a power cycle will clear the session odometer and a full reset of the device settings will clear the total shot odometer.

Using Xero Bow Sights for Bowfishing

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sights will not range targets through the water. You can however use the fixed pin settings to set established distances for aiming at targets in the water. Review the owners manual for more information on setting fixed pins. To find the owner's manual, if you identified the product select Manuals on the left.

Do the Xero A1, A1i, and A1i PRO Have a Scan Mode?

The Xero® A1, Xero® A1i, and Xero® A1i PRO bow sights do not have a scan mode setting. The sight is scanning the whole time the trigger is being held. It is important to let off the trigger while still holding on the target, or you will get an errant reading because you moved off target but were still scanning.
