Garmin Dash Cam 10 or Garmin Dash Cam 20 Not Recording or Missing Video
Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage cannot be found on your Garmin Dash Cam™ 10 or Garmin Dash Cam™ 20 or the device's SD card:
- Ensure the device is recording video
- Check video settings
- Check SD card compatibility
- Ensure the device software is up to date
- Format or replace the SD card
Ensure the Device is Recording Video
Make sure the SD card is inserted all the way into the Garmin Dash Cam device. If it is not, the device will display an error message and the LED at the bottom will be solid green. It is easiest to use a fingernail to press the SD card into the slot at the side of the device until a click is heard.
The Garmin Dash Cam device cannot record video while the Gallery app is open on the device.
The Garmin Dash Cam is recording if the LED at the bottom is solid red.
See Indication that a Garmin Dash Cam is Recording Video for more information.
Check Video Settings
You may need to calibrate the event detection sensor or adjust its sensitivity if the Garmin Dash Cam device is failing to save video of incidents. See Garmin Dash Cam 10 or 20 Detecting Too Many or Too Few Events.
The Protected Video Overwrite setting may be enabled if the Garmin Dash Cam device is missing specific saved videos. See Garmin Dash Cam Saved Files Missing to disable this setting.
Check SD Card Compatibility
The Garmin Dash Cam device may not be able to record footage onto incompatible SD cards. See SD Memory Card Compatibility for Garmin Dash Cam 10, Garmin Dash Cam 20, Garmin Dash Cam 30, and Garmin Dash Cam 35.
Ensure the Device is up to Date
The software of your Garmin Dash Cam device can be updated using the Garmin Express™ software on a computer. See Updating Garmin Dash Cam Software using Garmin Express for installation instructions.
Format or Replace the SD Card
The SD card may need to be formatted to record more footage if it contains corrupted data. See Formatting a microSD Card on the Garmin Dash Cam 10 or Garmin Dash Cam 20.
You may need to replace the card if the Garmin Dash Cam still shows no videos recorded after formatting the card or if the card cannot be formatted. See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices for information about recommended card sizes.
