Using Multiple ActiveCaptain Cards on a Garmin Chartplotter

ActiveCaptain-compatible chartplotters can utilize a single ActiveCaptain card at a time.  If multiple ActiveCaptain cards are detected on the Garmin Marine Network, the following error message will appear:

In addition to the error message, the system will behave as though there are no cards inserted.  If this error is encountered, there are two options available:

  1. Eject one of the cards from its card slot 

  2. Remove the Activecaptaincard.dat file from the Garmin folder within one the micro/SD cards


To remove the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file:

Windows:

  1. Insert the card into the computer's card reader

  2. Open the Start Menu

  3. Type the words "file explorer" (Windows 10) or "windows explorer" (Windows 7)

  4. Left-Click on the "File Explorer" or "Windows Explorer" search result to open

  5. Left-Click on the drive letter associated with your card

  6. Double-click the Garmin Folder

  7. Right-Click the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file

  8. Select Delete

Mac OS X:

  1. Insert the card into your computer's card reader

  2. Double-click the newly added desktop icon for the micro/SD card

  3. Left-click the Garmin Folder

  4. Left-click and hold the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file

  5. Drag and drop in the Trash
