Keeping the Original fēnix Chronos User Interface
There are numerous feature and user interface changes that were implemented with version 5.80 of the fēnix® Chronos watch software*. Backdating to the 3.00 software version1, and then turning off the automatic software update prompts, will keep the original user interface and features on the watch. The necessary file for this process can be downloaded here. Instructions for installing this software, and turning off software update prompts can be found below.
Installing Software Version 3.00
- Connect the fēnix Chronos watch to a computer using the USB cable
- Download and unzip Chronos_3.00.zip
- Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN directory
- Disconnect the device from the computer, and power the device on
- Proceed through the update
Note: When reverting to an older version of software, all settings will be reset to defaults.
Disabling Software Update Prompts
- Press and hold the Up button to open the main menu
- Select Settings
- Select System
- Turn the Auto Update toggle to the off position
Note: When this toggle is off, new updates will still be downloaded and can be installed to the watch from the Software Update menu, however, all automatic update prompts will be hidden.
*See related content for additional information about the specific feature and user interface change.
1Please note that version 3.00 may contain bugs and have other issues, and will not be updated. If a bug or issue is found, the watch will need to be updated to the latest standard version of software.
