Advanced Toll Road Avoidances

Garmin automotive devices provide the ability to avoid toll roads during navigation.

To Adjust Toll Road Avoidances on your Device:

  1. Touch Settings or the  gear icon on the main menu
  2. Touch Navigation
  3. Touch Route Preferences or Avoidances
    • Some devices skip this step
  4. Touch Toll Roads
  5. Select one of the available options:
    • Avoid
    • Allow
    • Always Ask
  6. Touch Save
    • Some devices skip this step

Changing this setting will not recalculate the active route, but future routes will use this new preference.

The Expected Behavior for Each of These Settings:

  • Avoid: The device will calculate routes that do not include Toll Roads by default.
  • Allow: The device has the ability to include Toll Roads in the calculated route if the inclusion of that road provides the faster or shorter (depending on your other navigation settings) route to the destination.
  • Always Ask: The "Always Ask" setting refers to the complete route only, regardless of the number of Toll Roads included in the route. When calculating a route with toll roads, an on-screen prompt will appear asking if you wish to calculate a new route without those Toll Roads.

If the option is selected to calculate a new toll-free route, a visual representation of the new route and the amount of time and distance that will be added is displayed.  If the new route is preferred, you can touch Go! to calculate and use the Toll-free option.

Legend for the Above Screenshot:

  • Purple route: This is the original route calculated by the device, that does not include toll roads. If you want to take this route, touch the back button.

  • Blue route: This is the newly calculated route that does not include Toll Roads. Touching Go! on this page will start navigation using this route.

  • Data Fields: The fields on the right of the screen display the new arrival time, added travel time, and added mileage of the toll-free route (blue) over the original route (purple).
