Garmin GMI 10/GMI 20 Software Update
Since the GMI 10 and GMI 20 do not have a way to connect to a computer, and do not have an SD card slot, they cannot be updated independently. There are two ways to update these devices.
The first option is to connect it to a Garmin Marine chartplotter/sounder over NMEA 2000. When the two devices are connected, performing a software update on the chartplotter/sounder will also update the operating system installed on the GMI 10 and GMI 20 . For information on how to update the device using this method, please see related content.
For the second option, if a chartplotter/sounder connection over NMEA 2000 is not available, Garmin sells a NMEA 2000 Network Updater that can be installed in a NMEA 2000 network with the GMI 10 or GMI 20. The update SD card can be inserted into the network updater and the update will be sent to the devices over the NMEA 2000 network.
