Updating GDL 39 Software

The process for updating the software will vary depending on what device you are using with the GDL® 39 data transceiver.

Garmin Aviation Portable Device:

• The software update will be received through a compatible Garmin® portable aviation device. 
• The software update can be obtained through the WebUpdater program.

iOS or Android Mobile Device:

• The software will be received through the Garmin Pilot™ app.
• This is a free download and requires a Bluetooth connection between the GDL 39 and the mobile device.
• How to update GDL 39 software via Garmin Pilot: 
  1. Connect your mobile device to the GDL 39 via Bluetooth.
  2. Open Garmin Pilot.
     
  3. Navigate to the Devices page.
  4. Select the GDL 39.
  5. Select Check for Updates under the Firmware section.
  6. If there are updates available, you can select it when it prompts you to do so.

Note: The GDL 39 will only update when connected to an external power source.
