Setting Up Original fēnix Series for Outdoor Running or Cycling Activities
The Garmin fēnix® series outdoor watches can track and record outdoor activities, such as running and cycling. The watch can provide details about your activity from a recorded Track. Some settings on the watch need to be changed in order to capture accurate data.
Setting GPS Mode to Normal
- Press the Action key.
- Select Setup.
- Select System.
- Select GPS Mode.
- If needed, change to Normal.
The watch will now track its position.
Changing Track Settings
- Press the Action key.
- Select Setup.
- Select Tracks.
- Select Method.
- Choose Auto,1 Distance, or Time.
- Press Back button.
- Select Interval.
- Select set preferred interval.
- Press Back button.
- Select Output.
- Choose one of the following file extensions:
- GPX if using BaseCamp™ software.
- FIT if uploading to Garmin Connect™ application.
- GPX/FIT for use with both (uses more device memory).
- Press Back button until Setup appears.
- Select Start GPS to have fēnix watch locate satellites to begin activity.
The watch will now be ready to be used to do an outside activity.
1 Auto record method automatically records points as speed, direction, and elevation change. If Auto is chosen for the Track setting, the Interval options will be Most Often, More Often, Normal, Less Often, and Least Often. More track points will provide more detail about the activity, but will also take up more memory.
